Don’t Eat the Planet: Have a vegan cupcake instead
Vegan cupcake giveaway on Earth Day at Noon
Vancouver, BC (April 22, 2010) – Activists from Liberation BC will be giving away 1000 free vegan cupcakes to the public in celebration of Earth Day. Their message is simple: decrease your carbon footprint by reducing meat, dairy and egg consumption.
A 2006 report from the United Nations entitled “Livestock’s Long Shadow” revealed that raising animals for food produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all of the cars, trucks, ships and planes combined. Renowned climate experts like Lord Stern, David Suzuki and Al Gore have all agreed that eating lower on the food chain is an important step in fighting climate change.

“You’ll reduce more carbon emissions by eating vegan meals than by driving an expensive electric vehicle,” says Joanne Chang, spokesperson for Liberation BC. “Replacing meat, dairy and eggs with plant-based foods is something that everyone can do. It’s simple, affordable, and fun.”
Even occasionally eating vegan can have a huge positive impact on the planet. In fact, according to the carbon savings table created by the Montreal Vegetarian Association, if all Canadians went without meat for one day a week, it would have the same environmental impact as taking 2.7 million vehicles off the roads of Canada for one year.
Along with the delicious vegan cupcakes, activists will be handing out information about the connection between food and climate change.
Now, who’s up for a free vegan cupcake?
